Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am excited to share that last month our class began using a new digital reading program called Scholastic W.O.R.D. (Words Open Reading Doors). This engaging program helps students build stronger vocabulary skills and deepen their reading comprehension in fun and meaningful ways.

Here are some of the ways W.O.R.D. supports your child’s learning:
Theme-based learning: Students are introduced to new words through 10 different themes that connect to subjects like science, social studies, and the arts.
Words in context: Instead of memorizing lists, students learn words in meaningful contexts. For example, they explore how the word wave can mean a greeting or the movement of water.
Focus on essential vocabulary: W.O.R.D. is built on research that highlights 2,500 word families, which make up 90% of the words students encounter in text.
Interactive activities: Children practice vocabulary and comprehension skills through games and engaging reading passages, making learning feel more like play than work.
To get the most out of this program, it is recommended that students use W.O.R.D. three times per week for about 20 minutes each session. Encourage your child to share their progress with you—they are proud of what they are learning!

Students can access the program at school and at home by clicking on the Scholastic App via Clever. Please help support their learning by setting aside time at home to use the program whenever possible.
Thank you for partnering with me to strengthen your child’s vocabulary and love for reading!
