About the Teacher

My name is Mrs. Valens. I graduated from FIU with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and I'm ESOL and Gifted Endorsed. This will be my fifteenth year teaching.

I developed a love for teaching at a young age and began tutoring at fourteen. Teaching is something that runs in my family. My father was a college math professor and my sister was an elementary school teacher. Teaching runs in my family. My husband and daughter also play a big role in my life and they inspire me to be the best I can be every day.

Each day, I strive to help my students reach their goals and the the best versions of themselves. I enjoy using different methods of teaching to engage all learners. Technology, music, and hands-on, real world learning are often incorporated in many of my lessons.
Although this will be my second year teaching dual language classes, I have developed a love for teaching Spanish too. I believe learning a second language brings forward more opportunities in the future. Growing up in a Cuban household, Spanish was the my first language I learned and so it has played a big role in my life over the years. I hope to instill the love of speaking a second language into my students too.

I am looking forward to an exciting school year!
